Circle

Fisheye, 5 1/8 X 8 1/8, watercolor

for this painting I only used watercolors. To begin, I sketched out the wave and fish eye part, I then erased it and painted over the shadow. I started with the wave, I slowly layered on blue green paint to get the see through toothpaste green I was looking for. Next, I made the orange outline of the fish eye leaving white space for the pupil and iris. next, I added the blue-green parts of the eye. For the background, I made lots or orange circles and added a light yellow wash overtop. last of all, I added the eyelashes, a great suggestion by Finn Furtney. One experiment I did was testing paint colors on scrap paper.

I used line to create movement in the wave. I used shape to create a pattern and form a sense of unity. I used color to create contrast, emphasis and balance.

I named the piece "Fisheye because fisheye lenses make a round video and or photo. It's also a floating eye in a sun under a wave so it could be a literal fishes eye. This piece relates to my life because I like photography and the ocean, I also think eyes look pretty cool. Im proud of the painting as a whole. If one element of it was alone I doubt I would like it but together it looks real sychedelic and cohesive. I struggled with the eye lashes at first, all I had to do was slow down n' take some extra time.
