political cartoon

For this project we were instructed to make a political cartoon or just a political peace of artwork that made you think. For this piece of work I started with graphite sketch. I then erased and used the ghost of the lines to put dots on with my navy micron. I experimented while drawing by adding in a graphite line seeing if I liked the placement and then adding it in ink.

I used line to create movement, I also used value to create emphasis and rhythm.

I think this peace is pretty abstract. We have an ocean man that's being surfed by the moon. The ocean man represents the spirit of the ocean as a whole. I think you have to really appreciate a place to get to know the spirit of it; in this case, I spend a lot of time in and around the ocean. The moonsurfer represents the people using it for example the surf community but this could be anybody: fisherman lobsterman etc. The surfer has the head of the moon due to the affect the moon has on the tides of the ocean. We as people affect the ocean too. We can eathor keep the ocean clean or continue to continue to pollute it. I'm proudest of the feet of the moonsurfer. There real funky and abstract. I also think I captured him hanging 10 really well (hanging all 10 of ur toes of the front of ur surfboard).
