pinch pots intro

For this project I made two pots and one egg. For all these pieces I used the pinch technique. I started with a spherical to cube shape piece of clay and worked it into a bowl. I started by pushing in the center so I had a finger shaped hole. From that whole I worked outward, pinching the clay surrounding the whole into the wall of my three individual pieces.

for this dipping bowl I kept my bowl smaller but made thicker walls. This gave the bowl a comfortable weight. After the bowl was formed and smoothed I added ridges by pressing lines in with my fingers. this created a rippled effect that's interesting to hold. for glaze, I used a dark brown iron looking color that imitates traditional japanese pottery. I glazed the whole inside of the bowl but only glazed the rim and let the outside form drips. the linear drips speak to the ridges I made earlier. I'm extremely happy with this piece and excited to use it in the future. The only thing I would change in the future is to make a more uniform rim.

whites: HF-11–teal

for my green egg I made a bowl, then flattened it out to form the whites. I then pulled up some clay in the middle to form the yoke. This was a fairly simple project but one tricky part was making the yoke look like it was sitting on top of the weights as opposed to being blended out of them. Over all I enjoy this piece but next time i might make the yoke out of another small pinch pot instead of

For my noodle bowl, I worked my bowl into a hemispherical shape and then pushed out a foot at the bottom of the bowl in the shape of a circle. This foot shoes on the inside of the bowl as an indent. I have some noodle bowls at home with a similar but more sublet design. I glazed it a similar color to the color of my noodle bowls at home as well. if i were to change anything about this bowl in the future I would round everything off a little more so there are less angles to the shape of the bowl.
