organ n' tissue donation

life after death

12 x 13

ink on marker

For this project we were asked to make a poster that promotes organ n tissue donation. For this project I used a linoleum block with ink to print my graphic and a marker to add the text. I experimented with how much ink I used on the paper and adding red behind the rose. My project started as simply a skull with a rise n now stand for saving lives.

In this piece I used black n white to create contrast and color to create emphasis upon the rose. I also used positive n negative space to create the skull shape.

The idea behind the peace is if you sign up to be an organ and tissue donor even after you die parts of you help others live on. Life after death. This is represented by a rose growing out of a skull or life coming out of death. This print relates to my life because I like The Grateful Dead and this message reminds me of some of their music. I'm proudest of the overall stylization of the skull and rose. It's not to realistic or to abstracted. I struggled with the lettering. I overcame this by measuring out the space and using a ruler.
