Ideas: My idea was to show how the atmosphere of an environment can be changed by adding something as simple as a rug and some plants. This scene is based off a corner of my living room. My familiarity with this space made it easier for me to manipulate the atmosphere because I know how it feels with and without certain things.

Materials: For this project I made my underlying sketch with graphite and then added oil pastel overtop.

Process: For this dipdic I used lots of repetition in the tiles to unify the two pieces. This also makes the different parts of the two pastel pieces stand out, amplifying their (the plants on the table and the rug) effect on the atmosphere. The result is a warmer cozier feeling bottom piece while the top one feels cold. Oil pastel are new to me but I enjoyed the way you can use a small color palette and end up with many variants of those few colors.
