Negative Space still life

Swell fish

18 x 12

1) For this project I used pencil to sketch out my initial design and then from there all sharpie. 2) to start out I used a ruler to draw the shapes around the positive space. I then Sketched out my designs with a pencil inside the negative space. from there I added sharpie over top of the sketch. In some cases I erased the sketch underneath. 3) my project evolved from simply black and white positive and negative space. to, a colorful piece with lots of detail.

one example of balance in my Negative space still life is the way I worked with the space within the negative space, I tried to arrange the objects in them in a balanced way. This piece is full of contrast, I used color and value to create contrast throughout. I'd say there's a lot of emphasis on the fish, it's in the biggest box and, its orange with a blue sounding which makes it stand out. I used a lot of pattern in the fish and the surrounding of all the other objects. I did this by using texture. and to cap it all off I unified the entire drawing by using a limited color pallet.

1) In this project I included only natural objects, I think all of them together creates a sort of jungle vibe. 2) This project relates to my life by showcasing nature which is something Ilike. 3) my favorite part of this project was how neet and concise I was with all the marker strokes. I also like pine tree at the center bottom, it has a lot of character. 4) One struggle I had was figuring out what kind of fish I wanted to have in the top box. I overcame this problem by combining the look of a koi and a sunfish (mumpkid seed) to make a visually pleasing fish.
