Mckenzie Smith

I chose this potter/ceramicist because I like his warm functional style and his pottery is similar to things I strive to make. I really like how his pots are simple forms yet are very individual. This comes from his detail work and color choices as well as his firing process. I also love how he notes he hopes his pieces are a pleasure to use because, I also love a good bowl or mug that just feels lovely. I hope to make simple yet individual pieces of ceramics with a similar feel in the future.

Mckenzie aims to make lively, funcional posts that show the natural beauty of clay and fire. They are largely inspired by folk traditions and it's made out of stoneware. Hes uses wood, salt and soda firing do to the warm effect they have in his clay and glazes. It'a a more analog chance oriented process that brings a connection between him and his work. He hopes the culmination of his process and style cretes wear that is a pleasure to use with a warm essence.
