Bio

Robert Feldman’s work as a poet, musician, and painter originated in his late teens. He first began experimenting with applying fire to augment and enrich his abstract paintings during his years living in Bisbee and Tucson, Arizona. It was during this period he acquired skills as a stonecutter and silversmith as well. And subsequently upon returning to NY, Robert transitioned into designing sculptural jewelry for women, where his metalwork appeared in several prominent stores throughout the country, including Saks 5th Ave and Bergdorf Goodman as well as Harper’s Bizarre and Vogue magazines. Mr. Feldman holds a MA in English, Linguistics, and Languages from the University of Arizona.

Regarding his life as a poet, Mr. Feldman was born in Paterson, New Jersey, and inevitably was inspired at an early age by members of Paterson’s literary tradition, most notably Louis and Allen Ginsberg and William Carlos Williams. Subsequently as a young adult while living in St. Louis, he organized various poetry readings, produced and hosted a community issues news hour and a biweekly bebop jazz radio program on KDNA-FM. It was during this time his interest and admiration for the Beat Generation flourished. Later, Robert was instrumental in publishing some of Arizona’s most influential writers such as Drummond Hadley and Michael Gregory, and in 1980, collaborated with Lawrence Ferlinghetti on his Bisbee publication, “Mule Mountain Dreams.” During the ’80s and ’90s, he participated in dozens of poetry readings around the country. Currently, he resides in south Florida, continuing to write, paint, and play tabla, besides workshopping with poets, young and old, throughout the country and the world.
