without a God

(inspired by Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein)

without a god

creature oversees the misty air,

its breath

hesitating,

a thief

before a Christmas tree

latent with gifts

“My creator left me in disparate parts. I cannot fathom another tormenting day of alienation.”

“Townspeople stare at these sewn together body parts; sometimes my vacant eyes find their incredulity, and then hurriedly look away.”

“Only an old blind man speaks to me mostly with his violin.”

“I am so very tired from all this solitude- I wish to belong somewhere, belong to someone.”

This blue flame

flickers without purpose,

a faint glimmer

fleeting,

hidden

icy Arctic caverns

some thousand miles from home,

no beginning

nothing to begin again,

seedless,

sightless,

without destiny,

solitary,

without

God.
