Here is a relatively simple sketch of a spider plant for practice.

Demonstration Painting

Step one in the guidance below the painting uses the term kumadori-hō. That is a technique in which the brush is first loaded with one color; white for this painting. Then apply color to one side of the brush and then again to the opposite side. The idea is to be able to produce a striped brush stroke; in this case, green on the sides and white in the center, My example is not the best, but practice it to see what you can do.
