This relatively simple sketch of a breaching whale is for practice.
The first instruction in the painting guidance below calls for crinkling the paper. This technique is called momigami. I knew where I wanted to paint the whale's tail and was careful to not crinkle it there. The part of the paper from where the waterline was to go and upward was tightly crinkled. Except for the whale's tail, I still crinkled the rest of the paper, but not as tightly as higher up.
