Calligraphy, Sketches and Demonstration Painting

Calligraphy

The kanji word below means shiitsu (Four Freedoms from Misfortune) for those who want to practice their calligraphy.

Sketches

The relatively simple sketches below are for practice. The first set is camellia seeds.

The next sketch is hollyhock seeds.

Demonstration Painting

I used highly sized paper for this painting. Though it wasn't originally my intention, I painted part of the camellias while the paper was still wet from my first strokes and ended up with a tarashikomi effect. Other areas of the painting are that way, too. It helped that I reduced the amount of sizing in the paper by applying water to some of the areas I painted on later. That can reduce the amount of sizing in the paper.
