Week 9

Demonstration Art

From a ukiyo-e triptych by Utagawa Kuninao (1793 - 1854). See discussion.

Calligraphy, Sketches and Demonstration Painting

Calligraphy

There are two kanji words this week for those who want to practice their calligraphy. The first is sekku (festival).

The next word is tango from tango no Sekku (Boys's Day).

Sketch

Here is a relatively simple iris sketch for practice. It is a sketch of a bearded iris, not the shōbu iris associated with Tango no Sekku.

Demonstration Painting

My demonstration painting is a haiga featuring an origami kabuto (helmet) and a haiku by Kimie, a Japanese poet about whom I have no information at all except that Kimie is a female name. I like her poetry, though. Here it is.
