Week 6

Demonstration Art

From an ukiyo-e by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797 - 1858). See discussion.

Calligraphy, Sketches, & Demonstration Painting

Calligraphy

There are two kanji words this week for those who want to practice their calligraphy. The first is tsukushi (field horsetail).

The next is warabi (bracken).

Sketches

The relatively simple sketches below are for practice.

For the field horsetail, sugina refers to the green, non-fertile stem; the one that has spiky leaves growing out of the stem's nodes.

Demonstration Painting

There are two demonstration paintings this week. The first has only tsukushi (field horsetails).

Always begin a painting session by practicing your strokes.

The second painting has a combination of field horsetails and bracken.
