Demonstration Art

From an ukiyo-e by Kikukawa Eizan (1787 – 1867). See Discussion.

Calligraphy, Sketches and Demonstration Painting

Calligraphy

The Japanese words below are for those who want to practice their calligraphy. The first word, in kanji, is natsu (summer).

This is zōri (sandal) using the phonetic hiragana syllabary.

Sketches

Here is a relatively simple sketch of a waraji (straw sandal) for practice.

Painting Demonstration

This week's demonstration painting is a haiga with a summer haiku by Yosa Buson (1716 – 1784). He is considered to be one of Japan's greatest poets.
