Calligraphy

The kanji character below is saru (monkey) for those who want to practice their calligraphy.

Sketches

The two relatively simple monkey sketches below are for practice. The first is of a nihonzaru (Japanese macaque or snow monkey).

This next sketch is of a golden snub-nosed monkey.

Demonstration Painting

My model was the monkey in the Chōjū-jinbutsu-giga scroll (emaki) shown in unit 12.1. In my painting guidance, I refer to a warifude stroke. That is a stroke in which the bristles of the brush have been spread apart.
