Calligraphy, Sketches and Demonstration Painting

Calligraphy

For those who want to practice their calligraphy, the kanji character below is the word,

sumire

Sketches

These simple sketches are for practice. The first is a violet outline.

The next sketch is the same thing with color added.

Here is another color sample sketch.

The sketches below are for Japanese sumire. The leaf shown is roundish. Sumire often have elongated leaves like some of those in my demonstration painting.

Demonstration Painting

The painting this week is dominated by mokkotsu-hō (boneless) strokes with a little kōrokutensai-hō (mokkotsu-hō with outlines) here and there. Note that there is more than one type of violet in the painting. The pink falling objects and the ones on the ground are cherry blossom petals.
