Week 16

Demonstration Art

From a painting by Gyoshū Hayami (1894-1935). See discussion.

Peony

Calligraphy

Here are the kanji characters for botan (peony) for those who want to practice their calligraphy.

Sketches

Here are two peony sketches to practice on. The first uses only senbyō-hō (line) strokes.

The second uses gansai (color) and also uses a combination of senbyō-hō with mokkotsu-hō (boneless) strokes to fill in the space inside the lines. The combination of the two is called kōrokutensai-hō. It doesn't matter which (senbyō-hō or mokkotsu-hō) is painted first.

Demonstration Painting

Here is my peony demonstration painting. It makes heavy use of mokkotsu-hō (boneless) strokes.
