Week 10

Demonstration Art

From a byōbu by Katsushika Hokusai (1760 – 1849). See discussion.

Calligraphy, Sketches & Demonstration Painting

Calligraphy

The hiragana characters below are momiji, the Japanese name for Japanese maple trees when the leaves are red. These are for those who want to practice their calligraphy. As a side note, when Japanese maple leaves are green, the Japanese name for the tree is kaede.

Sketches

The relatively simple sketches below are for practice. The first set is of Japanese maple leaves.

The next sketch is a maple leaf branch with leaves.

Demonstration Painting

The leaves are autumn red, making the maple a momiji instead of a kaede.
