Sketches

Here are relatively simple sketches of two of the four shiai subjects for practice. The first is a basic orchid (shunran).

The next is a chrysanthemum.

Demonstration Painting

The challenge with shiai as with any of the combination subjects is arranging the elements into a pleasing composition. Don't assume that my arrangement is the only one or even the best. Use your imagination to come up with something that pleases you. Chose your own color scheme, and feel free to use different types of orchids, mums, etc. than I used. Creating a natural setting, a landscape, instead of a floral arrangement like I did is okay, too. The main thing is to use all four elements. Show me what you can do.
