Calligraphy, Sketches, & Demonstration Painting

Calligraphy

For those who want to practice their calligraphy, the following two kanji words are both for types of ume. The first word is shiaume for White Plum.

The next word is kōbai for Red Plum.

Sketches

Here is a simple sketch of ume buds and blossoms for practice.

This a colored version of the same sketch.

Demonstration Painting

The plum branch the birds are perched on is modeled on a real branch that I was given. It is a bit unusual but real. The plum blossoms were done with vertical senbyō-hō (bone or line) strokes. They can be very time consuming to do right, but the result can be rewarding. The birds' heads and chests were rendered with mokkotsu-hō strokes.
