Some sketches this week are examples for how to paint various parts of orchids. The first shows how to paint an orchid leaf.
Next is an illustration showing the classical composition and stroke order of orchid leaves. There are 7 strokes in all. All seven should be painted with a single charge of ink on the brush.
Here is a relatively simple sketch of blossoms of the Chinese grass orchid for practice.
For the Chinese grass orchid, I used different leaves from the classical examples above. The spots on the stalk rising from the uppermost sketch are buds for emerging flower stalks.
Chinese grass orchids are small, so I wanted to include familiar tenkei to the painting to help show the size. The tenkei could be any number of things. I just happened to choose sparrows for my demonstration painting this week.
