Painting by Itō Jakuchū (1716 – 1800). See discussion.
There are two kanji words this week for those who want to practice their calligraphy. The first word is kaiji-hō (a style of painted bamboo leaves).
The next word is sasa (the name of a bamboo genera).
In place of a regular sketch this week, here is a series of kaiji-hō; painted bamboo leaf examples. Each has its own name in Japanese associated with the number of leaves in the example. Note that all of the leaves angle or droop downward, a characteristic of kaiji-hō leaves.
This week's bamboo painting uses kaiji-hō leaves.
