From a kacho-ga by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797 – 1858). See discussion.
There are two kanji words this week for those who want to practice their calligraphy. The first is tsubaki, another word in Japanese for camellia.
The next kanji word is yuki (snow).
There are two relatively simple sketches this week for practice. Here is a tsubaki sketch.
This is a camellia bud.
Step 6 in the painting guidance below calls for using water to paint the areas to be covered with snow. That will help prevent the blue, to be painted on the back side of the paper, from showing through in those areas. I also tried to avoid painting the back in those areas. In effect, once the painting drys, the "snow" will be just unpainted paper.
