The Japanese word below, written in hiragana, one of the Japanese syllabaries, is bara (rose) for those who want to practice their calligraphy.
Here are two relatively simple rose sketches for practice. This is the first one.

This week, I use a painting technique called kōrokutensai-hō. Basically, I made a line-drawn sketch and added color afterward. I didn't add a tenkei in this painting, a small element that adds some additional interest to the main subject. In a landscape, it may be a small building, a boat, or some people. In paintings like this one, it might be a bird, an insect, or something similar. Inside a house, it might be something that suggests the setting.
