Fan Painting by Taikan Yokoyama (1868 – 1958). See discussion.
The kanji word below, shunran (spring orchid), is for those who want to practice their calligraphy.
The sketches this week are a series of examples for how to paint various parts of orchids. The first shows how to paint an orchid leaf.
Next is an illustration showing the classical composition and stroke order of orchid leaves. There are 7 strokes in all. All seven should be painted with a single charge of ink on the brush.
Next are examples of orchid blossoms.
When painting, try to make your strokes flow smoothly, especially for the leaves.
