Sustained Investigation #6

Bathing in My Depression

This painting is depicting an elderly woman taking a bath in her fairly blue bathroom. I used watercolor and pen to create it. I wanted to change up my perspective so I decided that a bird's eye view would look the best. I had some trouble with making the angles on things like the vase and toilet because they were made of straight lines I could simply connect to the vanishing point. My favorite part is the mirror because it's simple and it looks like it has the glare of the light or how an empty mirror looks. I choose to use muted colors and a blue scheme because I didn't what you to think this was an exciting scene. It supposes to be bland and saddening just like the woman's life supposedly is. I couldn't decide if I should have added a light shadow in the water of where the rest of her body was. The water could be bubbly and foggy so adding the shadow might have over complicated it.
