Independent Project #4

Loud Lucia

For this project I tried something new to me, I used carving foam. I had never used it before and thought it would neat to try. I ended up liking it very much and was able to problem solve a way to paint it without the foam absorbing the paint too much. The carving is of an elderly woman with her mouth wide open. Other than that I didn't do much else to morph the woman in an unnatural way (Not including the cartoon-ish style she is). I had fun carving but wasn't very happy with ho bumpy the background stayed. the coloring in the background is not ideal, It was originally a royal blue, but I thought that looked too dark with the black border. I ended up repainting it rainbow but not all the colors are layered enough (like the yellow). Painting the woman was fun because I got to add more shading to the already carved spots. As fun as this was, I'm not very happy with the end product. I feel like it came out too sloppy and the colors in the background clash too much with the woman.
