Sustained Investigation #2

A "Relaxing" Evening with Martha

This piece is made with pen and alcohol-based markers, depicting an elderly man reclining in a bowl of soup as his naggy with stands in the distance. The piece is supposed to show a lovely meal with flowers and wine between a couple while hinting at the fact that Martha is waiting for her husband to do something wrong. I've found that with elderly married couples bicker quite often, making a nice night like this even stressful. I am very proud of how this piece turned out because I included a ton of small details within the table, soup, flowers, etc that made the process very tedious. The most difficult part was the flowers because of how slowly it took to draw and color them in properly. There are two things that I dislike about this piece and that is the wine glasses and the vase. On the wine glasses, I made the lip of the right glass have the white and black lines to thick. For the vase, the part where it indents at the top and the lines showing the bumps tilts up and makes it uneven. On a more positive note, I love my choice in colors for the soup, bowl, and man and how they all are similar and toned down.
