For the scholastic category Civic Expression, I chose to make a veteran in navy whites adjusting his hat with the flag in the background. I made the veteran because there really isn't anything else that shows this much dedication into keeping civic rights in America. They are the people who fight for us, risk their own lives just so that we can have our rights. I used mainly sharpies in this piece because I wanted contour lines and solid negative space. If I were to fix anything I would try and change the proportions of the stripes in the back and the buttons. both seem to change size and widths apart from each other. What I like the most out of this piece is how I used the lines to make not only the outline but the shadows.
