Year 9 MATHEMATICS STANDARD 2024

TERM 2 : Linear Relationships, Data Analysis and Financial Mathematics

In Term 2, students will start by studying Linear Relationships. They will begin by graphing lines on a number plane; use a variety of strategies to determine the gradient and equation of the line, find the midpoint and/or distance between two points and use linear relationships to model real life situations.

Next, the students begin their investigation of the topic Data Analysis. They will describe sets of data according to shape, centre and spread. Quartiles will also be used to help draw box and whisker plots. Finally, mean and standard deviation will be introduced, as another tool to compare data.

In the Financial Mathematics topic, students solve financial problems involving earning, spending, and investing money; compound interest and interpret mathematical and real-life situations to solve problems.

During Term 2, students will complete the Year 9 Task 2 assessment. The mark will contribute to 50% of the overall Semester 1 Year 9 Report mark.
