Year 9 Mathematics Standard
TERM 4, 2025
Students will begin the term by continuing their work with Linear Relationships. Students will be able to find the midpoint and gradient of a straight-line interval and the distance between 2 points by graphical and geometrical methods. They will identify positive and negative gradients, recognise and graph linear relationships (including horizontal and vertical lines) with and without digital tools. They will be able to identify the x and y intercepts of a straight line and identify the equations of the x and y-axis and lines parallel to them. Students will finish by being able to determine whether a point lies on a line and recognise that parallel lines have the same gradient.
Finally, students will begin our last topic Probability A and B. The focus will be on determining the probabilities of outcomes for multistage experiments. These will include both independent and dependent events, also understanding the difference between mutually exclusive and non-mutually exclusive events. The use of set notation, along with conditional statements will be reinforced through Venn diagrams and 2-way tables. Combining these skill will enable students to solve probability problems.
During Term 4, students will complete Task 4 which contributes 40% of the student's overall assessment for the year.
