Year 9 Mathematics Standard
TERM 3, 2026
Students will begin Term 3 by continuing with Topic 7 – Financial Mathematics A. Students will solve problems involving earning money, including using published tables to calculate tax payable and net earnings. The simple interest formula will be introduced, before students use their skills to calculate the cost of buying on terms, while investigating different ways of spending money.
Next, in Topic 8 – Trigonometry A, students will discover the relationship between the sides and an angle in a right-angled triangle. They will use the three trigonometric ratios to calculate unknown sides and angles.
Real life problems will give students the opportunity to apply their new knowledge.
Finally, in Topic 9 Linear Relationships A, students will build on their knowledge of the cartesian plane. Given two points, they will be able to find the midpoint, gradient and distance of an interval. Recognising and graphing straight lines will include vertical, horizontal and also parallel lines.
During Term 3, students will complete Task 3 which contributes to 20% of the students’ overall assessment for the year.
