In this unit, students explore beliefs and practices associated with death and afterlife across a range of ancient and contemporary cultures and religions. The main focus of the unit is Christian belief based on the meaning of Jesus’ death and resurrection.
We will achieve this by understanding the following:
The implications for Christian living of Jesus’ teachings concerning judgement and eternal life
The scriptural basis for the Church’s belief in the risen Christ
Ways in which the Spirit of the Risen Lord continues to be present and active in and through the Church today
How the Church’s belief in the Risen Christ is celebrated through the Easter season and the Liturgical Cycle.
Ways in which the Spirit of the Risen Lord was present and active in the early Church.
Personal accounts of how faith, hope and love have transformed the experience and meaning of loss and death in people’s lives.
Ways in which one ancient religious system gives meaning to human experiences of illness, death and the hope of immortality.
Ways in which one non-Christian religious belief systems give meaning to the human experiences of illness, death and the hope of immortality.
We have these goals because studying Easter experiences allows students to encounter the transformative power of the Resurrection, deepening their personal faith and helping them apply Christ’s message of hope and renewal to their daily lives.
