Throughout this 100-hour introductory course, students will develop their communicative competencies and ability to make meaning in Italian. They will explore themes relating to their personal world, including family, friends, pets, school, food, and leisure activities. Students will learn to introduce themselves and others, discuss their likes and dislikes, and describe how they spend their free time. Additionally, they will learn to articulate their opinions and preferences, providing reasons for their choices. Over the duration of the course, students will also examine key aspects of Italian-speaking cultures and deepen their understanding of grammatical structures by comparing the Italian and English language systems.
Students will achieve this by:
using online resources to complete games and activities
reading and writing Italian texts that make use of key structures learnt in class
creating role plays and writing texts in Italian that implement the key structures learnt in class
listening and responding to spoken Italian
employing a range of strategies to recall key vocabulary
