Year 11 Mathematics Extension
TERM 3, 2026
Students will begin Term 3 with Parametrics followed by Further Trig Identities & Equations, Binomial Theorem, Exponentials and Logs, and Probability and Data.
In Parametrics, students will convert linear & quadratic functions and circles between parametric and Cartesian form. This understanding will enable them to graph linear & quadratic functions and circles expressed in parametric form.
In Further Trig Identities & Equations, students will investigate some new trigonometric identities, and then use their new skills to solve more complex equations. Interpreting these solutions graphically will enable them to analyse their solutions in a variety of contexts.
In Binomial Theorem, students will investigate the expansion of binomials through the study of Pascal's Triangle. They will discover the symmetry of the coefficients and use these to prove further identities
Next, Exponentials and Logs will develop their understanding of solving practical problems involving rates of change in contexts such as exponential growth and decay.
Lastly, in Probability and Data, students will look at sets and set notation, calculating probability, including the application of conditional probability. The data component will revisit discrete and random variables before revising the various ways to display data.
During Term 3, students will complete Task 3, the Preliminary Examinations which will be worth 40% of their overall Preliminary result for both the Advanced and Extension course.
