Unit 2- The Eucharist and the Liturgical Calendar

Big idea: The Eucharist is the source and summit of Catholic life.

We will achieve this by investigating:

• Biblical evidence of the Eucharist, in particular the institution narrative stated during the Last Supper

• 3 different understandings of Eucharist, as memorial meal, sacrifice and sacrament

• key symbols, objects used and parts of the Mass and their significance 

• the seasons, colours and events marked by the Catholic Liturgical Calendar

We have this/these goals because:

• the Eucharist is viewed as the source and summit of Christian life in the Catholic Church.
