Term One
Characterisation and Status - Monologue
Students will use a variety of drama techniques to create, refine and express characters. Students will work individually and collaboratively to apply a range of improvisation and other strategies to create scripted and improvised characters. Students will explore the character's inner thoughts and feelings. Students will explore how character affects dialogue, convey emotion and develop character through frozen images. Students will also refine and perform improvised, rehearsed and scripted drama work. Students will explore stereotypes, assist peers in developing characters and explore various issue through drama, using personal experience and knowledge to create a character. Students will learn how to make character choices set within an improvisational scenario.

Term Two
Elizabethan Theatre / Shakespeare - Film Adaptation / Transformation
Students will explore Elizabethan Theatre and study the works of William Shakespeare. Students will learn the historical context, language and facts about Shakespeare's plays. Students will learn the meaning, context and understanding of Shakespeare’s insults and workshop acting styles in order to create a Shakespearean production. Students will learn about adaptation and transformation in recreating one of Shakespeare's works to suit the mode of video drama appealing to a modern audience. Students will explore Shakespeare’s concepts and plot to create a screenplay for film. Students will also learn about and develop skills in using video/film technology and editing techniques to create a visual performance for a viewing audience.

Term Three
Dramatic Form Compilation Play building
In collaboration with the entire class, a scripted drama is creatively rehearsed, resulting in the production of a polished piece of theatre. Students will be assessed on their participation in rehearsals, performing and staging elements and skills.
Students will take what they have learned in term three and utilise their new knowledge, skills and inspiration to create a class production of a selected play.
Term Four
Mime/Clowning/Physical Theatre
Students are introduced to and explore the performance of mime/clowning and physical theatre through guided drama experiences, devising and script performance. Students will use facial expressions, body language and movement to convey meaning. Students will perform mime/clowning/physical theatre with attention to detail and devise simple scenarios. Students will use specific and focused gesture techniques to create visually appealing scenarios and maintain audience attention. Students will learn about famous mime/clown artists and modern day physical theatre ensembles such as Frantic Assembly and Complicite. Students will work in groups to devise scenes, communicate ideas using the body and movement. Students will develop mime skills to enhance a scene with dialogue and participate in a whole class guided drama experience in devising, rehearsing and presenting scenes using physical theatre techniques. Students will also reflect on their progress and development in exploring this fusion dramatic art form.
