GOAL FOR THE UNIT:

The goal of this unit is to explore is the contribution of significant people, rituals and ethical teachings to an understanding of Islam as a living religious tradition. The study of Islam is to be of the WHOLE tradition where applicable. 

BIG IDEAS:  Students will understand that……

• Aisha Bint Abu Bakr made significant contributions to Islam in its founding period, which have greatly impacted the development and expression of Islam

• Islam offers adherents responses to modern bioethical issues by applying principles which come from its sacred texts

• The Pillar of Hajj is a significant practice for adherents of Islam to demonstrate their faith individually and collectively, particularly to testify to the oneness or unity of God, Tawhid.
