Topic 2 - Changing Places
This unit examines the movement of people by exploring the economic, social, environmental and political factors influencing international migration, along with its global consequences. Students analyse the characteristics, trends, reasons and impacts of migration to Australia, and investigate the factors shaping internal migration within Australia and another selected country. They study changing settlement patterns through the causes and consequences of urbanisation, differences in the spatial distribution of urban settlements, and the opportunities and challenges of living in urban, rural and remote places. Students also evaluate strategies for sustainable urban planning, including an investigation of population‑change management in one Australian city and the incorporation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ Knowledges in caring for Country and Place.
