Year 8 Mathematics
TERM 1, 2026
Students will begin the semester by working through Linear Relationships. They will study relationships between number patterns and their representation on a Cartesian Plane.
The next topic is Pythagoras' Theorem; students will identify the sides of a right-angled triangle, including the hypotenuse. They will use Pythagoras' Theorem to find unknown sides of a right-angled triangle, including in the context of problem solving questions.
From here students will begin the topic Percentages-Financial Applications. Students will solve problems involving percentages, including percentage increase and decrease, GST, profit and loss and applications of financial problems. they will also express one quantity as a percentage, fraction or decimal of another.
During Term 1, students will complete Task 1 which contributes 25% of the student's overall assessment for the year.
