Year 8 Mathematics
TERM 4, 2025
Students will begin the term by continuing their work with Geometrical Properties. They will build on their understanding of angles to solve numerical problems using properties of triangles and quadrilaterals.
Next topic is Indices - Application to Factorising; students will identify and apply the basic index laws, including the zero index. They will then investigate numerical expressions involving squares, cubes, square roots and cube roots.
From here students will revisit their earlier work on Area by applying their skills to Volume. Students will spend time understanding the difference between volume and capacity. They will use their skills to solve real-life problems involving prisms and cylinders.
Finally, students will begin our last topic Probability, where students will find the probability of a simple event occurring. They will begin with sample space, before investigating the concept behind theoretical versus experimental probability. Complementary events will be looked at, enabling students another tool for solving real life problems.
During Term 4, students will complete Task 4 which contributes 25% of the student's overall assessment for the year.
