Year 8 Mathematics Scope and Sequence 2024

Term 2:  Further Linear Equations; Ratio, Rates and Distance/Time Graphs; Geometry and Congruence

During Term 2, students will build on their skills from Year 7 to solve Further Linear Equations, up to three steps.

Next, students will explore the unit Rates, Ratio and Distance/Time Graphs.  They will learn what a rate and ratio is and apply their knowledge in solving a variety of real life problems. In addition, they will use rates to interpret distance/time graphs.

The final topic is Geometry and Congruence. In this unit, students will review properties of angles, lines, properties of triangles and quadrilaterals and parallel lines. Providing full reasonings will be a focus. From here, students will investigate congruence, in particular, congruent triangles.

During Term 2, students will complete Task 2 which contributes 50% of the overall Semester 1 Report mark. In addition, it contributes 20% of the student's overall assessment for the year.
