Year 7 Mathematics Mainstream
TERM 1, 2026
The goal during Term 1 is to revise the operations with Number learned in Stage 3 and extend these skills to include negative numbers. Students will use a variety of problem-solving strategies to help answer real-world problems. Throughout the term, students will apply the properties of whole numbers and apply appropriate techniques to solve real-world problems.
Next, students will explore the unit on Algebra and Equations. Students will begin their understanding of Algebra using concrete material; this will lead them to learning the basic rules of simplifying expressions. From here students will be introduced to two step equations.
Finally, students will move on to Indices. They will use index notation to investigate index rules.
During Term 1, students will complete Task 1 which contributes 50% of the overall
Semester 1 Report mark. In addition, it contributes 25% of the student's overall assessment for the year.
