Year 9 Mathematics Accelerated
(This course is the the same as the Year 10 Advanced course)
TERM 4, 2025
Students will begin the term with Properties of Geometrical Figures B and C. The focus will be on congruent triangles and investigating similar figures. Students will build on previous skills to find unknown sides and angles of polygons. The importance of geometrical reasoning will also need to be a priority.
From here students will continue their statistical work with Probability B. These will include both independent and dependent events, also understanding the difference between mutually exclusive and non-mutually exclusive events. The use of set notation, along with conditional statements will be reinforced through Venn diagrams and 2-way tables. Combining these skills will enable students to solve probability problems.
Next students will be introduced to Logarithms. They will understand the relationship between the exponential and logarithmic functions, including the graphs, simple calculations and the laws involved. These can then be applied to real life applications.
Students will next revisit their work from last term through the topic Functions and Other Graphs. They will discover the difference between functions and relations, before moving onto domain and range. Investigating graphing transformations will enable students build on their existing non-linear skills.
The final topic for this year is Polynomials. All 4 operations will be covered before being introduced to the factor and remainder theorems. Once these have been understood, students will take this knowledge and apply them to their graphing of Polynomials.
During Term 4, students will complete Task 4 which contributes 40% of the student's overall assessment for the year.
Students will also complete their 2nd RoSA test which will contribute to 50% of their external grade.
