In the English Extension 1 course, students explore and analyse Literary Worlds as a product of context whereby ideas, attitudes and perspectives are expressed. Through engagement with public, private and imaginary worlds, students will consider new insights and appraise their own values and assumptions.
Students will particularly focus on Worlds of Upheaval in their study of Literary Worlds more generally. In so doing, they will engage with texts that represent the struggle between the individual and society in times of political and social instability and / or transformation. They will also consider the potential of texts to incite change and to challenge literary conventions and societal values.
Students will continue to develop their written expression through the regular composition of imaginative and critical responses that engage with both the Literary Worlds and Worlds of Upheaval rubrics.
