Lesson Title:

Star hunt!

Short Description:

Students have a chance to interact with their favorite stars and hunt down for the relevant facts on the Internet!

Contextualization:

Target age: could be 10-12, but it is also appropriate for any ages especially learners of English as a second language

Lesson Aims:

B1-B2 (appropriate for information hunt on the internet and language used in higher education levels).

Competencies:

- Overall Reading Production: Students will be able to read clear, detailed text on a wide range of subjects, demonstrating a controlled use of organizational patterns, connectors, and cohesive devices.
- Oral Production and Comprehension: Students will express ideas fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions, and they will understand a wide range of demanding, longer clauses, and recognize implicit meaning.

Learning Objectives (SWBATs):

o   Students will be able to present information about planets.

o   Students will be able to read and understand the broad description of celestial bodies.

o   Students will be able to research or look up for information from the internet to extend the basic description provided by the AR app.

o   Students will be able to ask questions and receive feedback from their peers.

Preparation for the App Task Cycle:

o   Download the app Planets AR. Planets AR - Apps on Google Play

o   Familiarize themselves with the application.

o   Select one planet/celestial body from the app.

o   Put the planet on a stationary surface or a table to present it properly.

o   Read/listen the description provided by the app.

o   Search for more information on the internet, focusing on finding facts or examples to extend the description deeper.

Materials:

-        A cellphone or a tablet compatible with the app

-        A stationary surface or a table

-        An internet connection

Task Cycle Description:

-        Pre-task: (5 mins)

Install the application.

-        Task 1: (5 mins)

Select a planet and read the description.

-        Task 2: (10 mins)

Search for information on the internet to extend the pre-made description.

-        Task 3: (5 mins)

Blend the researched information with the existing one in the app.

-        Task 4: (5 mins)

Present the information and ask/discuss questions with peers.

-        Post-task: (5 mins)

Self-reflection/vote for the best presenter.
