Task cycle (preparation)
The preparatory steps we have in mind to carry out with the students involve a structured approach in several stages.
Firstly, this activity is designed to be implemented as part of a potential teaching unit, and we've planned for it to take approximately 30 minutes. It could be positioned in the second or third session of this learning situation sequence.
Secondly, we would introduce the students to the application and its uses. We could prepare a tutorial or a step-by-step document to explain it properly, and we might conduct a live demonstration if we consider it necessary.
After that, we would divide the students into groups. Depending on the students and the class needs, we would need to decide whether the grouping should be homogeneous or heterogeneous and whether it should be random or deliberate. Once the groups are formed, we would simply act as guides and let them proceed.
During the task, the idea, as teachers, is to act as guides and provide support and scaffolding as needed. To achieve this, you could use pictograms, infographics, and even involve a support teacher for students with specific needs.
Upon completing the activity, we would provide a co-evaluation rubric to assess the participation of the group peers. We could also act as observers and gather information if we need more evidences about it. The key idea is to ensure that GooseChasing involves all students and engages them to participate in order to complete the various missions. That is possible because we expect the topic is interesting enough for them.
Now the scavenger hunt...
Welcome to Techland!!
Hi guys,
Our beloved Techland is facing serious danger as one of its own residents has created a virus that will make all the technology in the area disappear. The desperate cry for help has echoed through the town, and it's up to you to answer the call!
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to embark on a series of challenging tasks and missions that will test your wit, courage, and teamwork. Each successfully completed mission will yield a crucial number, don't forget it. When you have collected all five of these numbers, they will form the key to disarm the virus.
Techland's destiny rests in your hands, and your ability to work together, think quickly, and act decisively will determine if our beloved town will see another day. As you race against the clock, remember that every second counts.
Good luck, and thank you for stepping up to save Techland from imminent destruction.
The countdown has begun, and time is of the essence!
Tekis.
Welcome to the Techland Rescue Challenge!
(TRANSCRIPTION)
That's the letter the students would recieve when they start the lesson.
That would bring them all the motivation and interest they need in order to work in depth during differents activities using the Goosechase app and the activities (missions) we have designed.
Mission 1: Name your Superteam
If you want to save TechLand from the evil Troyanus Virus, you must follow all this steps!
You should name your team... How?
Each of you has to think of the technological object that you use the least in your day to day bases, then write it on a piece of paper and mix them all! After that, take one of the papers without looking and what's written in the paper is the name of your group!
Done? Good! Now take a photo of the group holding the paper with your new name!
Now keep going... Good luck!
Tekis.
Mission 2: Tech Treasure Hunt
Well done heroes! Now you have to prepare for a crucial mission in the Techland Rescue Challenge! As you venture through the university faculty, you'll encounter technological objects crucial to our town's survival. Your task is to label the parts of these objects in English (e.g., "keyboard" for a keyboard) and capture a photo of each to finish by creating a collage with all the photos!
In this race against time to save Techland, these labeled photos will serve a vital purpose. They will aid you in deciphering clues and unlocking the secrets needed to thwart the virus that threatens to erase all technology in our beloved town.
Good luck, champions of Techland! The clock is ticking, and every second counts in our fight against imminent destruction. Your mission has begun!
Mission 3: Code Breaker to protect Techland homes
Fantastic work, team! It's time to embark on a mission to protect all the homes in Techland.
In order to safeguard Techland, your next clue is hidden within a mysterious code:
20 - 15 - 9 - 13 - 5 - 20.
Follow this code to your next destination and be prepared to answer questions about the technology that Techland's citizens use in their daily lives.
Please provide your answers in the following format, just like the example: Mobile phone, laptop and dryer. Good luck!
20 - 15 - 9 - 12 - 5 - 20 = T - O - I - L - E - T
Mission 4: Create a Tech Tutorial to help all the citizens of TechLand
As you progress through the Techland Rescue Challenge, you'll soon reach a pivotal stage where your skills and knowledge are put to the test. Now, it's time to unleash your inner content creator!
In this phase of the mission, you are tasked with creating a tutorial in English on a tech-related topic. Picture yourself as Techland's digital saviors, sharing your expertise to help others. Your tutorial could cover anything from setting up an email account to installing a vital application. Get creative, and make it engaging! As you document each step, don't forget to incorporate images or videos to provide clear, visual guidance.
Remember, Techland's destiny rests in your hands. Your ability to work together, think quickly, and act decisively is key. With every tutorial you create, you're not only contributing to our quest to disarm the imminent threat but also leaving a lasting legacy of knowledge that will help safeguard our town's tech future.
The countdown continues, and time is of the essence. Good luck, content creators of Techland!
Mission 5: Digital Storytelling
Continuing your Techland Rescue Challenge, you completed a tech tutorial, unlocking a holographic portal. It transported you to a digital forest where you met GPT, an ancient AI. GPT urges you to turn your tutorial into a captivating English story about setting up a home network, complete with images and videos. You can use a storytelling app like TikTok to record the story, and an AI like GPT to write it!
With this creative feat, you will gain GPT's approval, unlocking the path to the final chapter of your adventure. As time ticks away, you know that every step counts in your mission to save Techland from impending disaster. Good luck champions!
The countdown presses on, and the importance of your mission weighed heavy on your shoulders. Good luck, valiant champions of Techland, as you embark on this surreal digital quest to safeguard our beloved town.
Mission 6: The Grand Product
Techland is about to be saved thanks to your work, now you will have to take all the numbers that were appearing through the different missions. Then, you must put them into the order of apparition and write the code below. Once your code is verified you will have the Troyanus Virus deactivated.
The codes shown in the photograph appear on each screen, and you must collect them all to complete each mission and create a final code. This final code will deactivate the virus that is going to affect all of Techland.
***The final code is the combination of all the codes following the order of the missions, and it will be accepted as the answer in the last mission.
This sign is the quiz that students will find at the destination you discover in mission number 3 (the toilet).
They will need to answer the following questions in this questionnaire and note down the words in the mission task. In the goosechase chart it would appear:
Tablet, smartwatch and router.
The connection with the other missions is that the aim of the mission is to assist the residents of Techland. How can they do it? Helping to safe the tecnology devices they use in their daily lives.
Here you have the videos that we recorded when we presented the draft of our goosechasing activity. We have obviously taken into account our classmate's feedback to present, now, the final version. Thank you for helping us improving!
