Overview:
For this activity, students in small groups of 2-3 will develop an image and slogan for a product/brand of their choice using ChatGPT with the aims of practicing imperatives (form) and descriptive language (content). Students will be given a prompt to copy-paste into ChatGPT to direct them in a tutor-esque manner aiding in scaffolding & metacognition.
Contextualization:
Target Age: Freshman (14-15). ESL (USA)
Target Language Level (based on CEFR): A2.2
Location: computer lab/classroom (depending on school resources)
Lesson Aims:
Encourage students to apply descriptive language effectively.
Engage students in a creative, collaborative task integrating AI for scaffolding and reflection.
Help students practice correct use of imperatives and descriptive language in context.
Developing students’ plurilingual & pluricultural competence by creating work that is culturally appropriate.

Develop prompt & distribute to students (before class: 15 minutes)

Pre-task (3 minutes):
Students think of a brand/product they want to create.
Students think about descriptive words and commands they might use (imperatives).
Students access & copy-paste the tutor prompt into ChatGPT. (Students are not expected to read it).
Students access the “cheat sheet” for questions relating to language forms/accuracy + cultural sensitivity to ask if stuck.
Main task (10 minutes):
In groups, students will what students do with the app (how they interact with the app, with peers, with the teacher; main expected outcomes)
Students work in small groups to input their prompt into ChatGPT.
Students develop an image and slogan for their product/brand.
Students adjust language (imperatives and descriptive words) as needed based on ChatGPT output.
Students interact with ChatGPT to refine their ideas, asking follow-up questions or clarifying details.
Post-task (2 mintues):
Students review and discuss the ChatGPT-generated slogan and image in their group.
Students decide what to keep, change, or improve.
Students reflect on language use, noting any new vocabulary, imperatives, or descriptive phrases learned.
