Group 2 - Marta Benítez, Gisela Carmona, Joan Romera and Alèxia Romero
The activity we designed is an introductory task to a new project regarding the 13th ODS: Climate Change. The AR tool we used to create the activity is Metaverse, which is available both as a website and as a mobile app.
The idea is for students to work with Abbot, an AR character they already know from other projects, and help him investigate our world, as he intends to help them reduce pollution.
The target age for implementing this activity is 9-10 years old, 4th grade students. Also, the target language level according to the CEFR would be an A1. The location where the task takes place is both indoors and outdoors, as it involves going to different areas in the school.
Competencies specifically related to CEFR - A1 level:
Reading for orientation: Can recognise familiar names, words and very basic phrases on simple notices in the most common everyday situations.
Reading instructions: Can follow short, simple written directions.
Students will be able to:
Work on their previous vocabulary.
Read and comprehend simple sentences with written instructions.
As said before, the activity is embedded in a longer project, and students in the course are supposed to already know both the app and the Abbot character, so they surely have it downloaded on their tablets and are familiar with it.
Pre-task: Since our activity is an introductory one to a big project, there will be no pre-task activities. This will be the task that will come first and then the contents will be further developed.
Main task: Students will be working in groups. Each group will have a device with the app to solve the riddles that we have done. They will have to move through all the school to find the QR and scan them. Once they solve the riddle, they will be given the instructions to find the next QR.
Post-task: Students will put in common their ideas and their previous knowledge of the topic. Once they have done that, the teacher will use that discussion to develop the other activities of the project with the needs and previous knowledge that they have displayed.
