Pre Class Activity (gaining prior knowledge):
To begin this class we would use a language game to introduce new vocabulary and the order in which adjectives come in describing using the English language.
They will have learnt vocabulary about trees, species and other aspects of nature. They will also be able to use vocabulary that will help them describe the size, shapes and other features of objects they see.
We think that this activity would be during the class. The children will be able to use their prior knowledge to complete the exercise.
During: students will have to go outside and search two trees, two plants, two animals and two insects. However, for our classmates, we only asked them to search for one tree or plant and use Google Lens to see the name of the tree. Then, you they had to complete the worksheet (see Figure 1) with its name, colour, size and shape of the leaf. Finally, they had to complete a final description. Students will have some vocabulary cards about the leaf shapes (see Figure 2), parts of insects (see Figure 3) and different types of insects (see Figure 4) to support them. For our classmates, we only provided them with the types of leaf shapes.
Post Class:
The children will be invited to write a story based on nature. They will be asked to write about something that involves nature and the vocabulary that they learned in the class.
To transfer across curriculum: Students could bring home leaves etc and then use paper to print it. So that they can study their own leaf in Art Class.
