This is an entire lesson. It includes a pre-task, the main task and the post-task.
Activity 0: Pre-task
The main topic of this teaching unit is the Olympic Games. During this TU students are going to work on a diverse range of vocabulary and the structure of the present simple tense. The vocabulary is about the different sports, where are they practiced, if they are practiced individually, in pairs or in teams, …
Before the activities 1 and 2, students would have worked on the vocabulary and the structure of Past Simple tense, so the aim of these activities is to apply what they have learned.
Activity 1: Welcome & Warm Up
Students are greeted as they arrive with phrases such as 'How are you today?' Great to see you! They are encouraged to use the gestures they were introduced to in Block 1 (thumbs up, high five, fist pump).
The teacher asks them to remember the contract: Behave & Speak in English!
Familiarize yourself with the room and get to know the objects and actions they can perform. Students have to be able to catch and throw/leave objects.
Activity 2: Game: Find an object that…
Instructions: Go around the garage and in teams, find different items according to different features; individual/team sport, indoor/outdoor, winter/summer, olympic/not olympic, with ball/without ball. Each pair of features will be played in different rounds. Eg: 1st round→individual/team sport.
Then, every team has to agree and collect one object according to the feature the teacher has said in that round.
Once they bring the objects, in order (the first team that has brought the object first and so on) they have to express the name loudly and all the class has to repeat it.
In case the object’s name is not clear for students, the teacher will be in charge of expressing it out loud. Moreover, the educator will have to take in account the points of students on the scoreboard.
Now, before the teacher says the following feature, one student of each team has to put the object back to where they initially found it (more or less).
Activity 3: Match the object with post-it!
Learners will find some coloured post-its (blue, yellow, pink…) on the floor. Each colour will represent one team. Children will need to read the information on the post-it and select the object that they believe and agree beforehand and place it next to it.
Once the time is finished they have to walk around and see the other teams “exhibition” to see if the other teams did it right or not. All the students will go to each group object, one student (chosen by the teacher) will read the post-it description and they have to say which objects they decided that fit. If the other students agree, they have to do thumbs up, if not, thumbs down.
Activity 4: Hobbies and olympic games

FINAL PRODUCTION
Individual presentations in class, explaining their favorite sport object & sport objects used in the Olympics.
Main Learning Objectives
To develop students' organizational skills and understanding of how different items correspond to specific sports or hobbies, enhancing their ability to classify and group objects effectively.
To improve students' grammatical skills by forming correct sentences in the Present Simple tense, enabling them to describe routines, activities, and preferences related to sports and hobbies effectively.
Thinks to bare in mind
This activity must be done with half group or fewer students. There are some hours in the timetable where half of the class does English and the other half maths games (for example) in separated rooms. It's important that you implement this activity in these sessions in order to have small groups. If not, while half of the group is using Immerse the ohter half of the class does another activity such as planning a "mini Olympic Games". That can be done in groups, and the goal can be that each group has to design an Olympic sports activity for their classmates. Each group should choose which sports to include, design a poster, decide on the rules, etc. So that, the following day they can organise an Olympic event. This encourages collaboration and creativity, and can be done autonomously.
Moreover, it is important and mandatory to have the consent of families in order to implement Virtual Reality and to use IMMERSE.
Therefore, while using Immerse it would be nice to give the option to use headsets or computer. This is justified as students may get dizzy when using headsets, or, on the other side, there may be students who do not feel comfortable using them (for other reasons).
Finally, the material and post-its must be done before the session, and headsets and computers must be prepared before the lesson starts, in order to use time wisely.
