360 Memory Game at UIUC Main Quad
In this immersive 360 photo environment lesson, MA TESL students at UIUC will engage in a variety of interactive tasks to enhance their advanced language skills, culminating in the creation of short stories and active oral communication with peers. The activity leverages a 360 virtual environment to stimulate both written and oral CEFR C1 competencies.
- Target Age: Adult learners, specifically MA TESL students.
- Target Language Level: CEFR C1 (Advanced proficiency).
- Location: Classroom setting with access to internet-connected computers or tablets.
To develop CEFR C1 level competencies in both written and oral production and comprehension through interactive, technology-assisted language tasks.
- C1 (OVERALL READING COMPREHENSION): Can understand in detail lengthy, complex texts, whether or not they relate to his/her own area of specialty, provided he/she can reread difficult sections. Can understand a wide variety of texts including literary writings, newspaper or magazine articles, and specialized academic or professional publications, provided that there are opportunities for re-reading, and he/she has access to reference tools.
- C1 (ORAL PRODUCTION AND COMPREHENSION): Students will express ideas fluently and spontaneously without much obvious searching for expressions, and they will understand a wide range of demanding, longer clauses, and recognize implicit meaning.
- Navigate a 360 photo environment to complete interactive tasks and collect keywords for story creation.
- Employ the structure and conventions of a variety of written genres, adapting the tone, style, and register according to the context.
- Engage in oral communication activities, asking and answering questions with classmates to obtain necessary information.
- Demonstrate listening comprehension and oral fluency at the C1 level during information exchange and group discussions.
- Time needed for prep: 30 minutes of pre-lesson orientation to the Momento360 platform and the specific activity.
- Technological preparation: Familiarization with the 360 environment navigation, usage of Google Forms, and any necessary account setup.

- Pre-task (15 minutes): Students review how to navigate the Momento360 platform and discuss strategies for the scavenger hunt and quizzes.
- Main Task (45 minutes): Students complete the 360 environment tasks, engaging in scavenger hunts and quizzes, while interacting with classmates to ask questions and gather information.
- Post-task (30 minutes): Students use the keywords to write short stories and participate in a group discussion to reflect on the tasks, utilizing their oral skills.

Post-activity, students will reflect on their learning experiences, discussing the use of language in different contexts and their engagement with the interactive technology. This reflection will provide insights into their language development and identify areas for further improvement.
