Students will be using FrameVR to practice using comparatives and functional phrases related to materials and items that they might need in college. Students will visit different vendors to buy items that are on their back-to-college lists, then they will create a video/paragraph about the places they shopped at and what they bought

Students must be able to understand what the AI Chatbot is asking them in order to complete a purchase when they are in the virtual marketplace. Students must read and interact with the AI Chatbot, different prompts will be given to the students based on their responses, so students will need to react in real time to the language.
Students will produce language when they interact with the AI Chatbots to ask for pricing, and materials that they need to purchase. Furthermore, students will choose to either write a report or create a video about the the products they bought. In the video they will describe the items they bought and provide a rationale to why they chose those specific items.
Through the use of written text students will comprehend activities directions, text from AI Chatbots, and storefront displays. Students will use that knowledge to complete the activity presented to them.
Interact with AI agent to negotiate prices
Effectively use a budget to buy materials for college
Create a report about what they bought
Write a short paragraph using comparatives, and functional phrases
Record a video using comparatives, and functional phrases
Set-up VR Frame (one hour)
Integrate text photos and videos into the VR Frame so that it is ready for student use (35 minutes)
Introduce technology to students, give students time to navigate VR Frame so that they are familiar with how to use the website (5 minutes)
Create physical worksheet for students to use along with the digital elements– (10 minutes)
Prepare writing and speaking prompts for students (10 minutes)
FrameVR
Handout to accompany the FrameVR activity
Computers (VR headsets if needed)
Software that can be used to record/edit videos (i.e. Zoom)
Prior to the activity students will learn about how to use FrameVR
Students will review vocabulary and grammar that is related to the talk that they are completing.
Explain the scenario: “You are students in a virtual marketplace. Your goal is to buy items and prepare a report.” Give each student a shopping list and a budget (e.g., $350).
Students will explore virtual environments, visiting stores, checking prices, and “buying” items based on their needs/list. Students must take screenshots or notes of the things they bought and the prices that they bought them for. Students will maintain a budget while they are shopping and must ensure they do not go over budget.
Option A -- Write a short article (250 words):
Write a short paragraph using the vocabulary words, items you purchased, and grammatical forms that you’ve learned in class. In the paragraph, explain what you bought, where you bought it and why you bought the item. Take the price, and usefulness of the item into consideration.
Option B -- Record a one minute video summary:
Record a video using the vocabulary words, items you purchased, and grammatical forms that you’ve learned in class. In the paragraph, explain what you bought, where you bought it and why you bought the item. Take the price, and usefulness of the item into consideration.
Example statements:
“Today I visited the Virtual Marketplace. I bought three items and spent $250…”
“I chose to buy the used textbook because…”
“I spent $350 to purchase items for college…”
“I bought the two-tier shelf because…”

One aspect of the lesson that one may consider is the training of AI Chatbots. Throughout the lesson there were various examples of the AI chatbots not cooperating with the training that we developed. Some of these examples are:
Chatbots do not allow students to "purchase" items from the store. When the student would buy the item the AI Chatbot responded with "Sorry. You don't have the permissions to create assets in this frame. Contact an admin for access"
Chatbots sending participants to the brick and mortar location of The Home Depot in Champaign, rather that using the items we have trained.
For future considerations, teachers should monitor their classroom and add a section on the worksheet in case the situation comes up.
Other considerations could be further training AI models so that no errors occur.
